Palace of Versailles

Versailles was well worth the short rain ride from Paris. It was extremely ornate indoors, with huge halls with amazing artwork, and outside, with immense gardens (half hour walk from one side to the other). It was also interesting to see the evolution of the palace as it basically began as a small hunting lodge that kings liked so much that they kept adding on to it. My favourite, and most ornate, part was the hall of mirrors. It has mirrors all along one side (surprise), and massive chandeliers. One gets an idea of why the French people got so angry seeing this palace while they lived in poverty. So you could say that this is the palace that cost the king and queen their heads.
