Rome by Night

This was one of my favourite nights in Italy! As it was our last night in Rome and we wanted to really enjoy the night lights, Andy deemed it a special night. Yahoo! He took me to dinner in the piazza (square) with the Parthenon in it. We looked at six restaurant menus (while owners were trying to convince us to stay) before making an informed decision... I honestly think we chose the best one because our food was phenomenal, the wine was the best I've ever had (hoping to find it back home), our view was front and centre and the waiters were hilarious! We both had delicious pasta dishes (mine with homemade pesto and a Parmesan waffle bowl... YUM!) and for dessert Andy insisted we get their Italian cannoli (great choice).

Side note: In Italy, it's important to eat out at the earliest, 8pm. Not only will the candles be lit, street musicians start up and buildings be glowing, but most restaurants don't even open for dinner until half past six (we discovered this first in Venice when hungry for an early dinner).

After thoroughly enjoying every bit of our authentic Italian dinner, we headed for Trevi Fountain, then Piazza Venezia and lastly, the Colosseum.

I love Rome! It's definitely one of our favourite places in Europe, which is what we were both expecting. What makes Rome so fascinating, in my opinion, is that it continues to be the hustling, bustling city its been for centuries. The ancient city and surrounding ancient ruins are peppered throughout this active, 21st century metropolitous! As we left Rome on Monday morning, we felt as though we had become quite familiar with the different parts of the city... five days was just right for us to feel a bit of home in Rome.
