Under the Tuscan Sun

Next stop was Florence, in vineyard-filled Tuscany, Italy. We only stayed one night here but felt it was enough. It was typical Italy... which, to us, means narrow streets, cobblestone, mopeds, pizzaria's, gelato, laundry hanging to dry out windows, and overall loveliness! We'd probably say the best thing to do in Florence is to watch the sunset from Piazza Michelangelo. Our hostel happened to be the super cheap campground (26 euros for both of us) right next to this famous Piazza! The campground had a bunch of these permanent tarp tents... we stayed in one of these and actually had great sleeps.

We spent the afternoon wandering around, checking out the fourth largest cathedral in the world, seeing replicas of Michealangelo's David statue (the museum where it's being preserved is closed on Mondays! Boo!), stumbling upon a random organ concert to enjoy the loud, beautiful music, eating gelato and trying a Florentine steak for dinner (Andy gives it two thumbs up!).

What we enjoyed most about our time in Tuscany was watching the sunset over the city of Florence with a bottle of local red wine, cheese and chocolate. We had been down in the city and were running late so we booked it up the hill (at least 300 steps) and were so exhausted but relieved to have made it! Lots of tourists were up there but we found a good spot and enjoyed the evening together.
