Beautiful Brugge

Oh my! Brugge is the most beautiful city!! Andy and I have both said this would definitely be a place we'd like to return to for longer or see our parents go to. Big thanks to Greg Rickard for highly recommending Brugge over Brussels, we definitely agree! It's nicknamed the romantic city for its canals, bikes, picturesque buildings, carriage rides, bridges, restaurants, etc. To walk across the city centre takes forty five minutes... so it's a nice sized city, not too big, not too small. I just loved every bit of it!

We arrived at two on Friday and immediately hired bikes for six euros each - this is the best way to explore and get acquainted with the city. Almost everyone bikes in the city centre, so you feel very safe doing so. Our hostel host recommended that we start by circling the city centre by following the canal, so we did that first and then decided to just get lost in the quaint city. Andy chose whichever direction he felt like and I followed. I tend to be the slightly more adventurous one so I found it very entertaining when Andy very mischievously grinned back at me and darted into a gated, private courtyard and freely biked around.

Here are some pictures of our picnic, bike ride and sights...

That night, we did laundry (just one load... but much needed!) and then went for dinner in the Market Square. We keep reminding ourselves this is not normal life haha... but we are enjoying every bit! Belgium is known to have the best beers in all of Europe. Andy confirmed this, saying it was the best beer he had ever had! For dessert, we shared a Belgium waffle. We are a little skeptical about whether Belgium actually invented the waffle but it sure was delicious.

Early the next morning, we left for Amsterdam. To anyone planning on backpacking Europe, stay longer in Brugge... at least two nights! So long, Brugge!
