Czech Out Prague

Prague was so pretty! The old town buildings, restaurants, musicians, river cruises, etc. all create a romantic feel to the city... and we did see a LOT of p.d.a. (physical displays of affection) hehe. For both of us, the most interesting part of our time in Prague was the people we met.

On the train there, we met a young couple from India. Things we learned: most Indians speak at least four languages (national, state, mother tongue, English, etc.), he'll be an architect and she'll be a doctor but they'll never be able to buy a house in Bombay, we should visit the empty beaches in Goa, make it clear you would like NO spice in India because you'll still get some, they find Russel Peters hilarious, etc. We swapped contact information in case they move to Canada or we visit India! Amazing!

In Prague, we stayed in the apartment of a lovely Czech woman, Michaela, through the airbnb.com website. This website hosts many individuals apartments, bedrooms, houses from all over the world. Basically, it's affordable accommodation where you get to stay with a local! Plus, the prices are per night, not per person, so booking with Michaela was cheaper for us than the hostels! Michaela was an amazingly kind host, giving us excellent suggestions and even offering to do our laundry!

When we arrived at her place, we met another couple who had just arrived (she has three bedrooms). This bubbly, interesting couple, Rory and Jenny, have been married for four years, live in Australia and are Chrisitans! The four of us ended up hanging out all night... enjoying a delicious BBQ overlooking the city recommended by Michaela, walking along the river to the St. Charles Bridge, chatting away, exploring little streets and ending with drinks in the park with a beautiful lit up view of the famous bridge!

The next day, we didn't have to catch our train until 8p.m. so we had a fun little itinerary for the day. However, marriage test number two came but this time, we passed! Haha. But seriously, I got super sick to my stomache after we had walked thirty mins to the city centre. I ended up in a Subway bathroom... NOT fun. So we took a cab back to the apartment, rested until I felt much better and then I did laundry while Andy booked it on foot to the other end of the city to pick up our overnight train tickets for that night. Andy was the hero! When he returned, exhausted, after successfully getting the tickets, I was so proud of him for taking care of me AND taking care of business. What a man... I am blessed.

Our overnight train ride was hilarious. We were crammed into a tiny train cabin that had SIX beds... called couchettes. Thank goodness we all got along so well. In our cabin was Victor (Switzerland), Kate and Beth (England), Ryan (LA) and us (Canada represent!). It seems so easy to connect with other travelers because we're all doing the same thing! We shared lots of laughter and then received a knock through the wall soooo we went to bed. It was a very interrupted sleep because at every stop the train lurches forward... but a fun experience, thanks to our roommates!
