Favourite Things in Salzburg

Oh my! I LOVE Salzburg!! Andy often asks me, "So, what's been your favourite place so far?". It is hard to answer that because each place has its own uniqueness and charm. However, if I had to choose now, I would narrow it down to Ireland, Brugge and SALZBURG! A common denominator among these is they are smaller cities/places. I like the home-y feel... it is easier to get around by walking or biking, by the end of the stay you feel familiar with the city, they're quaint and quieter, often characterized by nature, etc.

Anyways, Salzburg is situated in a beautiful part of Austria... among rolling mountains and rivers. It is also where "Sound of Music" was filmed... we did a half day tour but in my books, it deserves it's own post so stay tuned! Even if you aren't a SOM fan (though who isn't?!), Salzburg is a place you don't want to miss.

Here are some pictures... when we first arrived it was sunny, but after checking into our hostel and stepping out the door to find dinner, it began down pouring!! We got soaked and practically every place was closed because it was Sunday. After checking nearly twenty little restaurants near and in downtown, we came across street meat and could not resist! It cleared up a bit after all that..

First thing the next day, we went on the Sound of Music tour with Panorama tours and saved by booking through our hostel (yet another fantastic recommendation from Courtney Sanderson... thank you!!). See next post for pictures.

When we got back, we found a local "Spar" grocery store to pick up picnic items (sandwiches, tomatoes, pea snaps, two euro bottle of wine). We were getting quite hungry but were determined to find a picturesque spot to eat. Our persistence paid off with this lovely view of the city...

We continued up the mountain towards the castle on the peak. It was quite the climb and there was an admission fee up there but we were SO glad to have gone. While Andy, who is pretty much a sponge of knowledge, soaked up the history, my favourite part was standing in a tower with a panoramic view of Salzburg and the surrounding landscapes.

Wandering streets and exploring the old town...

That night, we had dinner at Die Weisse, a restaurant recommended by our hostel. It was out of the tourist area, full of locals and delicious!

My absolute favourite thing in Salzburg was being with Andy. It's amazing to see all of these places, but to share it with my best friend is really a blessing I am continually thankful to God for. He is such a good husband to me. Praise God for his graciousness in giving me Andy.
